The role of University libraries in the formation of media and information literacy of students

Media and information literacy is a "skill of the XXI century" and it covers all competencies related to information literacy and media literacy, including digital or technological literacy. The development of focused training and educational activities in higher education institutions. Students acquire the knowledge, skills, attitudes, competencies and practices that provide effective access, analysis, critical evaluation, interpretation, use, creation and distribution of information and media products using all necessary means and tools for creative, lawful and ethical basis. The library has traditionally played an important role in this process, not only providing access to information and educational resources, but also conducting a systematic and permanent work for students of media and information literacy. In the last decade the subject matter varied: ability to navigate in the traditional print documents, work with texts, to make the search results information, complemented by the necessary knowledge and skills to work with electronic information resources. The electronic format not only affects the way of searching and obtaining information, but also on its perception. The University library not only organizes access to resources and training, but also analyzes the effectiveness of information resources. This confirms the role of the library as a subject of development of information and educational space and determines the urgency of issues related to formation and use in the universities electronic information educational resources and their impact on teaching and learning processes.
